It was found that regular non surgical perio treatment reduced gum disease and diabetes symptoms in patients.
What is the relationship between gum disease and diabetes?
It is a circular relationship/positive feedback loop. Gum disease make glucose management harder, resulting in the patient becoming hyperglycemic more frequently, resulting in gum disease being more prevalent.
What is a cytokine storm?
A cytokine storm is an overproduction of cytokines (immune response signals) in the body causing excessive inflammation and immune response.
What are proinflammatory cytokines?
These are cell signals that "ramp up" the body's immune response, continuing the inflammatory response that is being produced.
