Short digital extensor
name the Muscles on the Dorsal Surface (1)
Short digital extensor
divided into 3 heads: Lateral, Intermediate, and Medial head
Origin: arises from the distal part of the calcaneus and on the ligamentous tissue on the flexor surface of the tarsus
Insertion: inserts on digit IV (lateral head), digits III and IV (intermediate head), and digit II and III (medial head) in mediolateral sequence
Action: to extend the digits
Innervation: Peroneal nerve
Lumbricales
Interflexorii
Quadratusplantae
Abductor digiti V
name the Muscles on the Plantar Surface of the Pes (4)
Lumbricales
muscles on the plantar surface of the pes that is similar to those in the thoracic limb
Interflexorii
Origin: arises from the metatarsal pad, from the plantar surface of the tendon of the deep digital flexor proximal to the tarsus
Insertion: inserts on the metatarsophalangeal joints on the tendons of DDF of digits III and IV.
Quadratus plantae
Origin: arises from the lateral tuberosity of the calcaneus and the lateral collateral ligament of the tarsus
Insertion: inserts on the tendons of the deep digital flexor
well-developed/ stronger in cats than in dogs
Abductor digiti V
Origin: arises from the lateral aspect of tuber calcanei, deep to the tendon of superficial digital flexor
Insertion: inserts on the base of 5th metatarsal bone, together with the fibularis brevis
Abductor digiti I
Flexor digit I brevis
Adductor digiti I
name the Special Muscles of the Digit I (3)
FALSE: it is usually absent in most species of dogs
TRUE OR FALSE: the special muscles of the digit 1 is usually present in most species of dogs
