Business Intelligence (BI)
The process of analyzing data to support decision-making efforts in organizations.
Data Mart
A data collection smaller than a data warehouse, addressing the needs of a particular department or functional area.
NoSQL DBMS
A type of database management system designed to support high transaction rates and replicate data across many servers.
Systems Thinking
The ability to model the components of a unit and connect the inputs and outputs among those components into a sensible whole.
Metcalfe's Law
States that the value of a network is equal to the square of the number of users connected to it.
Hadoop
An open source framework supported by the Apache Foundation for managing large data sets.
Push Publishing
Automatically sending business intelligence results to users without requiring requests.
Thin-client Applications
Programs that run within a browser without needing to be preinstalled on client computers.
API (Application Programming Interface)
A set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software and applications.
Cloud Computing
The elastic leasing of pooled computer resources over the Internet.
Metadata
Data that provides information about other data, such as its source, format, and constraints.
Regression Analysis
A statistical process for estimating the relationships among variables, often used in data mining.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
A secure connection over the Internet that allows users to send and receive data as if their devices were directly connected to a private network.
Dynamic Reports
Business intelligence reports that are generated in real-time using current data.
Granularity
The level of detail or depth of data; it can be too fine or too coarse.
Value Chain
A set of activities that a company performs to deliver a product or service to its customers.
Core Competence
A unique ability that a company develops to maintain a competitive advantage.
Competitive Strategy
A long-term plan to achieve a competitive advantage in a particular market.
Data Processing
The collection and manipulation of data to produce meaningful information.
Outsourcing
The practice of hiring an external organization to perform services or produce goods that could be done internally.
Cloud Service Models
Includes IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, which represent various levels of cloud computing services provided to users.
