What are the six Lean principles?
Pull processing, Waste minimization, Continuous improvement (PDCA model), Flexibility, Automation, Load leveling
What are the attributes of a Lean supply chain?
Commodities/functional/lasting, predictable/consistent demand, long product life cycle, low product variety, cost-driven
What are the attributes of an Agile supply chain?
Fashion goods/trending/variable, volatile/market-based demand, short product life cycle, high product variety, availability/popular assortment-driven
What are common Lean tools?
Poka-Yoke, Value stream mapping, 5S Visual management
What are the 5S's of Visual Management?
Sort (Seiri), Set in order (Seiton), Shine (Seiso), Standardize (Seiketsu), Sustain (Shitsuke)
What are common Lean techniques?
Just-in-time (JIT), One-piece flow production, Point-of-use storage (POUS)
What are reasons attributed to over-production in lean manufacturing?
Poor understanding of customer needs, badly implemented automation, product design changes while existing designs are in process, producing for a forecast as opposed to having inventory pulled as required
What are some reasons for waiting time in a system?
Waiting out buffer time, waiting for a machine to complete its cycle, waiting out the end of a process, waiting for parts to be delivered or waiting for support
What constitutes a defect in lean manufacturing?
When a product deviates from standard design
What is over-processing in the context of lean manufacturing?
When more work than necessary is added or required
What does DMAIC model stand for?
Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control
What does DMADV model stand for?
Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, Verify
What are the organizational objectives of lean supply chains?
Improved quality, Eliminate waste, Reduce time, Reduce total cost
What are the advantages of lean supply chains?
Waste minimization, Emphasize the consumer and what the customer wants, Lean infrastructure
What are the disadvantages of lean supply chains?
Employee dissatisfaction, Equipment failure, Delivery inconsistencies
