Sensory Cortex vs Motor Cortex
Sensory cortex receives touch and body sensations; motor cortex controls voluntary movement. Sensory is in the parietal lobe, motor is in the frontal lobe.
Vision Processing
Occipital lobe.
Hearing Processing
Temporal lobe.
Smell Processing
Temporal lobe.
Taste Processing
Parietal lobe.
Touch Processing
Parietal lobe.
Gyri
Raised folds of the brain that increase surface area.
Sulci
Shallow grooves between gyri.
Fissures
Deep grooves that separate major brain regions.
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Includes the brain and spinal cord; processes information.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
All nerves outside the CNS; carries information to and from the CNS.
Sympathetic Nervous System
Activates the body during stress; “fight or flight.”
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Calms the body and conserves energy; “rest and digest.”
