Objection
A formal protest raised in court opposing the admissibility of evidence.
Fair Extrapolation
An inference that reasonably follows from facts stated in the Mock Trial Workbook or testimony.
Unfair Extrapolation
Testimony unsupported by a witness's own statement, intended to strengthen their team's position.
Impeachment
The process of challenging the credibility of a witness.
Relevant Evidence
Evidence that makes a fact more or less probable than it would be without the evidence.
General Admissibility of Relevant Evidence
Rule stating that irrelevant evidence is not admissible in court.
Compound Question
A question that combines multiple queries, which is prohibited in Mock Trials.
Leading Question
A question that suggests its own answer; not permitted in direct examination.
Hearsay
A statement made out of court, presented to prove the truth of the matter asserted.
Opinion Testimony by Lay Witness
Testimony given by a non-expert witness that is rationally based on their own perception.
