Function of the esophagus
to take food from mouth to stomach by muscular action called peristalis which helps in swallowing, a ride that will take about 5-8 seconds.
What is the lower esophageal sphincte
It is a ring-like muscle that relaxes when the food reaches the end of the esophagus and lets the food pass into the stomach.
Functions of the stomach
stores food, mix food with juice, kill bacteria in food.
Function of the small intestine
to further digest food through enzymes and absorb nutrients into the bloodstream.
Function of the large intestine
to absorb water and electrolytes from indigestible food matter and to form and store waste.
Function of the liver
to detoxify chemicals, metabolize drugs, and produce bile for digestion.
