Juvenal Satire 126-189

Translation

Quod porro officium, ne nobis blandiar, aut quod pauperis hic meritum,

Furthermore - not to flatter ourselves - what is the duty or what is the service of a poor man here,

si curet nocte togatus currere,

even if he goes to the trouble of putting on his toga before dawn and runs off,

cum praetor lictorem inpellat

seeing that the praetor is [already] hurrying along his lictor

et ire praecipitem iubeat

and ordering him put his head down and speed,

dudum vigilantibus orbis,

[since] those without children have long been awake,

ne prior Albinam et Modiam collega salutet?

in order to prevent his colleague greeting some Albina or some Modia first?
