no barium studies prior to exam

NPO 8 hours, no gum, no smoking
Urine pregnancy test 3 days before exam

take off everything except underwear, place in gown (no jewelry)

Post-Exam Instructions for both UGI and SBS

take laxative of choice (especially if prone to constipation)
stools may be white (completely normal since barium is white)
you no longer have to be NPO now that exam is overa

before and after exam have patient
