Supraglenoid tubercle
A bony protrusion located on the scapula where the biceps brachii tendon attaches.
Hyaline Cartilage
A type of cartilage with a fine collagen matrix; found in articular surfaces, costal cartilage, and fetal skeleton.
Ball-and-Socket Joint
A joint that allows multi-axial movement; examples include the shoulder and hip joints.
Arthritis
A condition characterized by inflammation of the joints, causing pain and stiffness.
Meniscus
C-shaped cartilage in the knee that absorbs shock and stabilizes the joint.
Fibrocartilage
A type of cartilage with large collagen fibers; found in intervertebral discs and the pubic symphysis.
Suture
An immobile fibrous joint found between skull bones.
Synovial fluid
A viscous fluid within joint cavities that lubricates cartilage and nourishes it.
Bursa
A fibrous sac filled with synovial fluid that reduces friction between tissues.
Synovial joint
A type of joint characterized by a fluid-filled joint cavity, allowing for free movement.
Elastic Cartilage
A type of cartilage that contains elastic fibers; provides flexible support found in structures like the external ear.
Pivot Joint
A joint that allows rotational movement; examples include the atlantoaxial joint.
Syndesmosis
A type of fibrous joint where bones are connected by long collagen fibers, allowing more mobility.
Articular capsule
Connective tissue that encloses the synovial joint cavity and retains synovial fluid.
Coffin Bone
Also known as distal phalanx; a bone found in the hoof of the horse.
Tendon sheath
An elongated bursa that wraps around a tendon to provide lubrication.
