Acids
Substances that contain hydrogen and release it when reacting with metals.
Alkalis
Chemical compounds that neutralize acids and form salts and water in the reaction.
Strong Acids
Acids that release more hydrogen when reacting with metals compared to weaker acids.
Red Cabbage Indicator
A natural substance that turns red or pink in an acid and green or yellow in an alkali.
Universal Indicator (UI)
A substance used to identify pH by matching the colour change to a pH scale.
pH Scale
A scale used to measure the acidity or basicity of a solution.
Neutral Solution
A solution with a pH of 7.
Neutralisation
The process where an acid and an alkali cancel each other out.
Salt
A product of a neutralisation reaction between an acid and a base.
Dilution
Adding water to a solution to make it weaker, affecting the pH by moving it closer to 7.
Hydrochloric Acid
A common acid found in cleaning products and stomach acid.
Sodium Hydroxide
A common alkali used in soap making and drain cleaners.
