Exponential Function
A function of the form f(x) = ab^x where b is a positive real number.
Linear Function
A function that graphs to a straight line, represented by f(x) = mx + b.
Exponential Growth
Occurs when the base b in the function f(x) = ab^x is greater than 1.
Exponential Decay
Occurs when the base b in the function f(x) = ab^x is between 0 and 1.
Initial Value (I.V.)
The starting amount in an exponential function, typically denoted as a.
Percent Increase
The rate at which a quantity increases, calculated from the initial value.
Percent Decrease
The rate at which a quantity decreases, calculated from the initial value.
Half-life
The time required for a quantity to reduce to half its initial value.
Function Notation
A way to write functions that express the output of a function for a given input.
T-chart
A table used to organize values of a function's input and output to sketch graphs.
Doubling Time
The time required for a quantity to double in size or value.
