Acento Prosódico/Fonético
The greater emphasis with which a syllable is pronounced compared to those around it.
Sílaba Tónica
The syllable in a word that carries the prosodic stress.
Sílaba Átona
Syllables pronounced with less intensity.
Tilde/Acento Gráfico
A sign placed on a vowel in a word to indicate that the syllable it's part of should be pronounced with stress.
Palabras Agudas
Words where the last syllable is the stressed syllable; they have a tilde when they end in n, s, or a vowel.
Palabras Llanas/Graves
Words where the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable; they have a tilde when they end in a consonant other than n or s.
Palabras Esdrújulas
Words where the antepenultimate syllable is the stressed syllable; they always have a tilde.
Palabras Sobreesdrújulas
Words where the stressed syllable is before the antepenultimate syllable; they always have a tilde.
Tilde Diacrítica
The graphic accent that allows to differentiate words with identical form that belong to different grammatical categories.
Diptongo
Sequences of two vowels that are pronounced in the same syllable.
Triptongo
Sequences of three vowels that are pronounced within the same syllable.
Hiato
Sequences of two vowels that are pronounced in separate syllables.
Sustantivo (Noun)
Words that designate people, animals, things, places, feelings, ideas, etc.
Adjetivo (Adjective)
A class of words that express qualities or other circumstances, such as origin, that refer to a noun.
Determinante (Determiner)
Words that precede nouns to specify or limit their extension.
Pronombre (Pronoun)
Words that name the same beings, objects, or notions that we usually represent with nouns.
Verbo (Verb)
A class of words with which actions, processes, states, or existence that affect people or things are expressed; it has variations of time, mode, number, and person.
Adverbio (Adverb)
Words that name circumstances of place, time, manner, or quantity, or express affirmation, negation, or doubt.
Conjunción (Conjunction)
Invariable words that establish nexuses in two different ways: by coordination and by subordination.
Preposición (Preposition)
Invariable words that act as nexuses that unite elements of different classes or functions. They link words or constructions of different hierarchy, that is, they unite the nucleus with its subordinate, with its modifier.
Fonemas (Phonemes)
Minimum units of language without meaning, which serve to differentiate words.
Palabras (Words)
Sets of sounds endowed with meaning.
Enunciados (Statements)
Sets of words that allow us to express ideas.
Texto (Text)
Set of statements that form a complete message.
Actos de Habla (Speech Acts)
Actions carried out through language to achieve various purposes.
Función Referencial/Informativa
Focused on giving an account of reality, of the world.
Función Expresiva/Emotiva
Focuses on the sender and their state of mind (sensations, feelings and emotions).
Función Apelativa/Conativa
It is oriented towards the receiver with the objective of modifying their behavior and beliefs.
Función Fática/De Contacto
Focuses on checking the operation of the channel (the medium through which the message is sent).
