What are Sulfonamides?
Structural analogues of PABA, which is a precursor for dihydrofolic acid.
What is Trimethoprim?
Inhibits bacterial dihydrofolic acid reductase (DHFR), an enzyme needed for folic acid synthesis.
What is dihydropteroate synthase?
An enzyme needed for folic acid synthesis, competitively inhibited by high levels of PABA or a PABA analogue.
Folic acid synthesis
Inhibition of what, results in the disruption of DNA synthesis and thus the inhibition of bacterial growth?
What is Methotrexate?
An anti-neoplastic drug that selectively inhibits human DHFR.
What is Pyrimethamine?
An anti-parasitic agent that selectively inhibits DHFR in protozoa.
