Elimination Method
A mathematical procedure used to eliminate one variable in a system of equations to solve for the others.
Step 1
Make sure the equations are lined up!
Step 2
Add or subtract the equations to eliminate the variable with common coefficients.
Step 3
Solve for the remaining variable.
Step 4
Substitute your answer into either original equation and solve for the other variable.
System of Equations
A set of two or more equations with the same variables.
Common Coefficients
The coefficients that are the same in front of the variables in the equations.
Substitution Method
A technique used to solve a system of equations where one variable is isolated and substituted into another equation.
