An intravenous catheter, a little straw that goes into your vein to give medications.

Gloves, gauze, sterile saline, tubing, IV catheter, tape, tourniquet, alcohol prep, and Tegaderm.
How should the patient be positioned for an IV insertion?
The patient should be in a comfortable position with their arm laid out.
What area of the arm is typically examined for IV insertion?
The antecubital area.
What is the purpose of the tourniquet during IV insertion?
To apply pressure and make the vein more prominent for easier access.
What direction should the bevel of the IV catheter be when inserting?
The bevel should be up.
What indicates that the IV is successfully in the vein?
Blood filling the fill canister.
What should be done after the IV is inserted and secured?
Apply pressure, check for any pain, and secure the IV with tape.
What complications might occur when removing an IV?
It can be a bit bloody, and the adhesive tape may cause discomfort when removed.
What will you ask the patient after inserting the IV?
If they feel any pressure or pain.
