What makes a reaction feasible?
ΔG must be <0
What is the Gibbs Free energy Equation?
ΔG = ΔH - (TΔS / 1000)
Where:
ΔG = Free energy change
ΔH =Enthalpy change (kJ mol-1)
T = Temperature (K)
ΔS = Entropy change (JK-1 mol-1)
Define feasibility
The measure of the likelihood that a chemical reaction can occur under specific conditions, considering factors like energy, concentration, and temperature.
It assesses whether the reactants can transform into products and whether the process is thermodynamically favorable.
Name an example where a reaction has negative ΔG, however isn’t feasible
Diamond → graphite
This is due to Diamonds very high activation energy, making the reaction really slow
