Soil Erosion
happens when the roots of plants and trees, which hold the soil in place, are lost. Hereās what that means
Losing Soil
When plants and trees are gone, the soil can wash or blow away. This takes away important nutrients and organic matter that help plants grow
Sediments in Streams
The eroded soil ends up in nearby streams and rivers, making the water cloudy and dirty
Warmer Water
When thereās more dirt in the water, it can get warmer, which isnāt good for fish and other animals that live there
Increased soil & stream temp.
When there are fewer trees, it can make the soil and nearby streams warmer. Hereās how it works
Less Shade
Trees provide shade, which keeps the ground and water cooler. Without trees, the sun heats up the soil and water more
Soil Color
Soil is darker than tree leaves, which means it absorbs more heat from the sun
Warmer Water
When dirt washes into rivers, it can also make the water warmer
