what are the 4 most common indicators
litmus , universal , penolphalien , methyl orange
which indicator turns red in acid and yellow in alkali?
methyl orange
what does penopathalien turn to if it is an alkali
colourless
what different substances do alkali and acids release in water
alkali = releases OH- ions in water and acids release H+ ions in water
what is a neutralisation reactions equation
acid + alkali/base = salt + water
apparatus used for titration
burette
conical flask
pippette
penophalien indicator
alkali
acid
titration method
add a measured volume of acid to the Burette
add a known volume of alkali and a few drops of penophalien indicator to a conical flask
hold the Burette over the conical flask and slowly add the acid to the solution
whilst adding , swirl the conical flask to speed up reaction
stop once solution turns pink ( acid)
repeat 3 times and calculate mean acid needed
