describe a mass spectrum?
- y axis: relative abundance (usually in %)
- x axis: mass/charge
- lines represent an isotope
what affect on an element does being an isotope have?
- no change in chemical properties
- physical properties: density/melting and boiling points/ acceleration/ speed of diffusion etc
what do you do if in a relative abundance question doesn't give abundance in %?
- abundance/ total abundance (sum of all abundances) * 100
what is the difference between relative molecular mass and relative formula mass?
- relative molecular mass is only for simple molecular substances
- relative formula mass is just all Ars in a formula added together (use this to avoid mistakes)
