Wireless LAN
Local Area Network that uses wireless connections for communication.
Access point
Device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network.
Infrastructure mode
A mode in which a wireless host communicates only with an access point.
Ad hoc mode
A mode in which wireless hosts communicate directly among themselves without a base station.
Multiplexing
A technique used to combine multiple signals into one to share a medium.
Wi-Fi standard 802.11
A set of standards for implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) computer communication.
Frequency Division Multiplexing
A method that creates multiple channels on a single communication medium.
Spread Spectrum
Technique used in wireless communication to spread a signal over a larger bandwidth.
Zigbee
A specification for a suite of high-level communication protocols using low-power digital radios.
Bluetooth
A short-range wireless technology for exchanging data between devices.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
A system that uses radio waves to identify and track tags attached to objects.
Cellular communication system
A communication system that uses a network of cells or base stations to cover a wide area.
Satellite communication
Communication technology that uses satellites to transmit and receive data.
VSAT
Very Small Aperture Terminal; a satellite communication system.
GPS (Global Positioning System)
A satellite-based navigation system that provides location information.
Wireless PAN
Personal Area Network; a small network for connecting devices within a close range.
