MECHANISM OF ACTION (MOA)

Dopamine works by stimulating different receptors in the body depending on the dose, helping to support blood pressure, heart function, and kidney perfusion.

  • Low dose (1โ€“5 mcg/kg/min)
    โ†’ Dopamine (D1) receptors
โ†’ Dilates renal arteries โ†’ improves kidney perfusion

  • Medium dose (5โ€“10 mcg/kg/min)
    โ†’ Beta-1 receptors
โ†’ Increases heart rate and contractility

  • High dose (10โ€“20 mcg/kg/min)
    โ†’ Alpha-1 receptors
โ†’ Causes vasoconstriction โ†’ raises blood pressure
