Simple interest is set based on the money that was originally in the account not some of the interest gained. Compounded takes into account the money gained from interest and make it exponential. Simple is linear and compounded is exponential.

Maxing out your credit card- maxing out your credit card puts you in danger of going into debt because you cannot pay it off. It puts you deep into a hole that is very difficult to get out of.
Not checking your credit scores- not keeping up with your credit scores is very bad as your credit score follows you the rest of your life. The US Navy can deny you security clearance because you cannot be trusted even with your own money.
