What is Human Resource Management (HRM)?
The process of finding, developing, and keeping the right people to form a qualified workforce.
What is the purpose of Human Resource Management?
The reason why something exists, is done or used; the aim or intention of HRM.
What does the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establish?
Minimum wage and rules related to overtime, recordkeeping, and child labor.
What does the Equal Pay Act of 1963 prohibit?
Unequal pay for male and female employees doing similar work.
What does the Family & Medical Leave Act of 1993 allow?
It permits workers to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave for childbirth, adoption, foster care, or medical leave.
What is occupational safety and health regulation?
Laws requiring employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards.

The process of gathering information about job applicants to determine who should be offered a job.

Application forms, resumes, references, background checks, and selection tests.
What is the purpose of training in employee development?
To develop the skills, experience, and knowledge employees need to perform their jobs or improve performance.
What is performance appraisal?
The process of assessing how well employees are doing their jobs.
What are objective performance measures?
Quantifiable measures of performance that can be easily counted or assessed.

Financial and nonfinancial rewards that organizations give employees in exchange for their work.
What is functional turnover?
The loss of poor-performing employees.
What is involuntary employee separation?
The loss of an employee due to termination or downsizing.

Conversations with employees to understand their engagement and retention needs.
