The crust weakens and fractures as magma rises and plates begin to separate
How does magma contribute to plate divergence?
Magma upwelling creates new crust and pushes plates apart

It is denser than the continental plate
What is the main difference between convergent and divergent boundaries?
Convergent destroys crust through subduction, divergent creates new crust

Plates slide past each other with no crust created or destroyed

A fracture in the crust caused by plate movement
What is a fold and what causes it?
Bending of rock layers due to compression and shear stress
How do anticlines and synclines differ?
Anticline is an upward fold (older rock), syncline is downward (newer rock)
