fibrotic/diffusion interstitial lung disease
Scarring in the lungs caused by injury/damage to alveolar walls and capillary endothelial cells that makes the lungs become stiff and thick → makes it harder for air to enter due to no lung expansion.
Sarcoidosis
Inflammatory disease where small clusters of epithelial granulomas form in the body and mainly affect the lymph nodes, lung tissue, skin, eyes, etc.; immunogenic and no known cause
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
Sudden and severe lung condition caused by damaged alveolar-capillary membrane that causes inflammation and lungs to be filled with fluid; damages pulmonary circulation and gas exchange system
Poliomyelitis
Caused by the polio virus that attacks the motor neuron nerves, which leads to muscle weakness.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Disease of progressive weakness and damage of upper + lower motor neurons that can lead to weakness of respiratory muscles and death.
Guillan-Barre Syndrome
Autoimmune system that attacks its own peripheral nerves and causes demyelination of nerves and weakness; Campylobacteri jejuni infection is present.
Myasthenia Gravis
Autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the connection between the nerves and muscles (neuromuscular junction) and signals do not work; low number of muscle receptors
Pneumonia
Infection of lungs by an infection agent (bacteria, virus, etc.) that causes inflammation to alveoli and fill them with pus
