Prose
Written or spoken language in its ordinary form, includes both fiction and nonfiction.
Genre
Recognizable patterns and details that help categorize a piece of literature, such as Romance, Comedy, Horror.
Tone
The emotional quality or mood conveyed by the writing.
Setting
The time, place, and environment where a story takes place.
Plot Structure
The organized sequence of events in a story, including exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
Dialog
A conversation between two or more people in a story.
Monologue
A long speech by one character in a story.
Scene
A concrete moment unfolding in real time, showing characters' actions, thoughts, and feelings.
Summary
A condensed account of events conveying information, ideas, and concepts, often linking scenes or providing background.
Character
A person in a story, defined by distinctive physical and mental qualities, which can be round or flat, dynamic or static.
Image
Sensory details in writing that evoke sight, sound, taste, touch, or smell to enhance reader immersion.
Fiction
Prose that describes imaginary events and characters.
Nonfiction
Prose based on factual information, real events, and real people, such as memoir or history texts.
Reader/Audience
The person or people for whom the writing is intended.
