Good morning. Please introduce yourself to the members of the jury.
Hi my name is Rowan Patel
What do you do for a living?
I’m a producer for this show called the Saboteurs. It was the best thing on television, until it wasn’t.
Can you tell us about that show?
I don’t know if you’ve ever seen Survivor, but it’s pretty similar, except that there were a few contestants whose job it was to sabotage the others. There was also a huge prize at the end. It ran for ten seasons, but we stopped production a few months ago.
Why did you stop production?
It was the last challenge of the season. It was all going great until that morning, something went wrong and... Someone died on set.
Who was that?
A contestant named Rob Armstrong. Each producer gets assigned a contestant to take care of. Mine was Rob. I’ll never forget the warmth his presence just made you feel.
Can you tell us about Rob Armstrong?
I met Rob in season two. That’s really when the show started to take off, and it was all because of him.
What did Mr. Armstrong do during Season 2?
During Season 2, Rob betrayed his fellow contestant, Charlie Martin. The fans loveddd the twist, and Charlie was devastated. But Rob, he became fan favorite.
Did you work with the defendant after that?
We were doing an all stars season- and naturally the fans wanted Charlie and Rob back together.
Were either of them players who could sabotage others?
Yes Charlie was a saboteur. He told us he was bent on revenge. It’s all he could talk about.
I’d like for us to talk about the final episode of season 10, were you in charge of designing that challenge?
Yes, There were two parts to it. The first was an obstacle course on land, and the second was a short diving task. Charlie was the only saboteur left, and he chose Rob to sabotage.
What did the defendant do to Mr. Armstrong?
Rob's oxygen tank was completely empty. He was only underwater for fifteen minutes, and I know for a fact I set each tank to have 30 minutes of oxygen. Everyone else’s tank was fine- it was just Rob.
Can you tell us if you ever personally saw the defendant with Mr. Armstrong’s equipment?
I did. Charlie was hanging around the dive equipment for a while the morning of the challenge. I could’ve sworn I watched him pour some powder into one of the masks.
Ms. Patel, where were you when the challenge started?
I was in the production van at a different location, watching it all happen live.
What happened as Mr. Armstrong approached the water?
Rob put his mask on like normal, but then he yanked it off and coughed a bit before putting it back on. Then he dove in. Things] were completely fine until about five minutes in.
What happened after 5 minutes?
He sort of started to slow down. We thought he was just tired at first, but we could see his breathing and his movements start to get erratic, like he didn’t know where he was. You could just tell something was wrong
Did you initiate emergency protocol?
I tried, I tried but no one was responding and we couldn’t do anything. His movements
were getting more and more frantic and then suddenly he ripped off his mask and he started choking and he looked so scared.
What happened next?
He was flailing for what felt like hours but must’ve only been a couple seconds and then he just... stopped. And his eyes closed. And we knew that he... that he was gone.
No further questions your honor
