Define motivation.
The force that drives behaviour, providing purpose and direction.
What is primary motivation?
physiological needs (sleep, thirst, hunger, etc.)
What is secondary motivation?
personal or social goals (affiliation, competition, achievement)
What triggers motivation?
internal forces such as intrinsic goals and also external factors such as rewards or punishment
What do primary motives drive?
behaviours essential for survival
What do secondary motives drive?
behaviours more indirect, effortful and outcome-focused.
Define reinforcement
process that a stimulus or event increases the likelihood of a specific behaviour being repeated.
Why is reinforcement important?
Reinforcement is important as it can shape learning and behaviour by modifying the consequences associated with specific actions.
