What is meta-analysis
the process of combining the findings from a number of studies on a particular topic
What is the aim of meta-analysis
to produce an overall statistical conclusion based on a range of studies
What is primary data
information that has been obtained first-hand by a researcher for the purposes of a research project
How is primary data gathered in psych
In psych → data is often gathered directly from participants as part of an experiment, self-report or observation
What is qualitative data
Data that is expressed in words and non-numerical
how can qualitative data be converted
can be converted into numbers for analysis purposes
What is quantitative data
data that can be counted usually given a number
What is secondary data
information that has already been collected by someone else and so pre-dates the current research project
How is secondary data used in psych
the data may include the work of other psychologists or government stats.
