Immediate Work Area

The area in which a person could contact energized equipment in the event of a fall or equipment slippage.

Protective Equipment

Equipment used to cover grounds, neutrals, and phase potentials within accidental reach when working on energized equipment.

Live-line Tools

Tools used when working on energized circuits, conductors, equipment, or apparatus carrying more than 5,000 volts.

Minimum Approach Distance (MAD)

The closest distance a vehicle or equipment can be to exposed energized circuits or equipment carrying more than 50 volts without being grounded.

Flash Protection

Protective gear to be worn when working on energized 480-volt meter bases.

Qualified Persons

Two individuals required to be present when installing or removing 480-volt meters in energized bases.

Cribbing or Pads

Materials used under stabilizing outriggers regardless of ground conditions.
