Decartes Third Meditation

If I caused my existences, I would be perfect, and I am not perfect.

Therefore, I didn’t cause my own existence.

Me existing now DOES NOT IMPLY that I will exist later

Therefore, something is causing my continued existence.

I didn’t and don’t cause my own existence.

Therefore, I depend on something else to exist.

I am a thinking thing with the idea of God. (Recall that causes must be greater than or equal to effects)

My cause must be a thinking thing with the idea of God.

What causes me must have a cause. It must either be caused by itself or something else.

We cannot have an infinite series of causes; therefore, something must cause itself.

What causes itself must be a thinking thing with the idea of God. God would fit this description.
