causes extension at the neck e.g Rugby forward in a scrum uses it to bind into the opponents
latissimus dorsi
broad back muscle- causes adduction at shoulder joint, swings arm backwards and rotates it inwards e.g swinging arm bak in serve table tennis
pectorals
2 sets of chest muscles-causes adduction and flexion at shoulder joint in horizontal plane, help adduct arm and rotate it inwards and lowering the shoulder blades e.g rugby player making tackle
biceps
causes flexion at the elbow-swings upper arm forwards and turns forearm so palm of hand points upwards e.g bicep curl weight training
triceps
causes extension at the elbow- straightens elbow and swings arm backwards e.g backhand table tennis
abdominals
bends body forwards at hips causing flexion of vertebral column and helps turn upper body e.g sit ups
quadriceps
provides stability to the knee joint and extends or straightens it e.g long jumper when driving off the board will straighten knee joint at takeoff
hamstrings
straighten hip and cause flexion at the knee joint-bends knee and rotates it outwards e.g netball player bends knees for running
