Open Shop

Agency Shop

Labor agreement provision requiring that, as a condition of employment, each nonunion member of a bargaining unit pay the union equivalent of membership dues, as a service charge in return for the union acting as the bargaining agent.

Closed Shop

Arrangement making union membership a prerequisite/ necessity for employment

Union Shop

Arrangement that requires that all employees become union members after a specific period of employment (legal minimum is 30 days) or after a union-shop provision has been negotiated.
