Transverse Plane
A plane that divides the body into superior and inferior parts.
Ciliary Body
Part of the eye containing the ciliary muscle and ciliary process.
Ciliary Muscle
Controls the shape of the lens for focusing.
Ciliary Process
Produces aqueous humor.
Medial Rectus Muscle
Muscle that moves the eye medially.
Vitreous Chamber
Large cavity filled with a gel-like substance.
Vitreous Body
Gel-like substance filling the vitreous chamber.
Blood Vessels (Eye)
Carries blood to and from the eye.
Scleral Venous Sinus
Drains aqueous humor from the anterior chamber.
Anterior Cavity
Area between the cornea and the lens, filled with aqueous humor.
Cornea
Clear outer layer of the eye that helps focus light.
Pupil
Opening in the iris that allows light to enter the eye.
Iris
Colored part of the eye that controls the size of the pupil.
Zonular Fibers
Fibers that suspend the lens.
Lens
Focuses light onto the retina.
Conjunctiva
Membrane that covers the outer surface of the eye and lines the eyelids.
Optic (II) Nerve
Transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.
Optic Disc (Blind Spot)
Area on the retina where the optic nerve exits; lacks photoreceptors.
Fovea Centralis
Area of the retina with high concentration of cones; provides sharp central vision.
Retina
Innermost layer of the eye containing photoreceptors.
Choroid
Middle layer of the eye containing blood vessels.
Sclera
Tough, outer layer of the eye that provides protection.
Lateral Rectus Muscle
Muscle that moves the eye laterally.
Macula Lutea
Area of the retina surrounding the fovea; important for central vision.
Iris
Located under the cornea.
Sclera
Located under the conjunctiva.
Eyebrow
Located above the eye.
Upper Eyelashes
Located on the upper eyelid.
Eyelid
Protective fold of skin
Pupil
Located under the cornea.
Conjunctiva
Covers the sclera.
Lower Eyelid
Protective fold of skin on bottom of eye.
