Pearson's Correlation Coefficient (Pearson’s r)
A statistic used to measure the strength of correlation between two quantitative/numerical variables.
Bivariate correlation
Correlation between only two variables.
Correlation matrix
A grid that displays the correlation coefficients between multiple variables.
Factor Analysis
A statistical method to examine relationships among multiple variables to organize them into clusters measuring different aspects of the same construct.
Multicollinearity
A condition where two predictor variables are highly correlated, leading to diminished effects on the outcome variable.
Causation vs Correlation
While correlation indicates a statistical relationship, it does not imply causation.
Qualitative vs Quantitative
Qualitative data is categorical, while quantitative data is numerical and continuous.
Scatter Plot
A graphical representation showing the relationship between two quantitative variables.
Regression Analysis
A method for developing a model to make predictions of one variable given another.
Restriction of range
Occurs when one or both variables have limited ranges in the sample which can make the correlation appear smaller.
