There was no strategic importance of Korea to the United States. Furthermore, no treaties with the Korea penunisula. On the contrary, Japan had a treaty with America to be governed and Japan did present some importance to the United States.

The Permanent Five (P5) members of the UN Security Council were unable to veto the intervention because the Soviet Union was absent from the meeting in protest of the UN's refusal to seat the People's Republic of China, allowing the resolution to pass. Futhermore, ROC was filling in for China

Since the ROC envisioned them retaking the mainland, America feared another potential war with China and potentially the Soviet Union

To keep hope alive of a counter-attack.
