Mortality

Number of deaths caused by a certain disease or illness.

Morbidity

Ill health in 1 person or levels of ill health/disease in a group/population.

Incidence

Number/rate of new cases of a condition.

Prevalence

Number/rate of a condition present at a given time (population).

Under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR)

Number of deaths of children under 5 per 1,000 live births.

Infant Mortality Rate (IMR)

Number of deaths of infants per 1,000 live births

Burden of Disease

Measures gap between current health status and ideal health.

Disability Adjusted Life Year (DALY)

1 DALY = 1 year of healthy life lost to premature death or time lived with illness.

Health Adjusted Life Expectancy (HALE)

Number of years in full health expected to live.

Determinant of Health

Factors that raise or lower the level of health in a population or individual.

Health Status

The overall health of an individual or population.
