Transmission Efficiency
A measure of the effectiveness of a transmission system at converting input power to output power without significant losses.
Torque Angle
The angle between the rotor's magnetic field and the stator's magnetic field in a synchronous machine, critical for maximum power transfer.
Short Circuit Current
The current that flows when a short circuit occurs, typically much higher than normal operational currents.
Transformer Insulation Class C
An insulation system capable of withstanding temperatures up to 180°C.
Buchholz Relay
A safety device used to detect faults in oil-immersed transformers.
Diversity Factor
A measure of the load variation in a system, calculated as the ratio of the sum of the maximum demands to the maximum load.
Skin Effect
A phenomenon where alternating current tends to distribute itself within the conductor, leading to higher resistance at higher frequencies.
Surge Impedance
The characteristic impedance of a transmission line that minimizes reflections at the junction of two different lines.
Capacitance Conversion
The perceived relationship between system voltage and the capacitance in transmission lines.
Sag in Transmission Lines
The vertical distance from the high point of a wire to the lowest point on the sagging wire, affected by tension and weight.
Ferranti Effect
The increase in voltage at the receiving end of a long transmission line when lightly loaded or under no load.
Regulating Transformers
Devices used in power systems to manage and control voltage levels.
Insulation Resistance
The resistance offered by insulating materials in electrical systems, crucial for safety and efficiency.
Series Compensation
A method used to improve transmission line performance by adding capacitive elements in series with the line.
Phase Fault Detection
The process of identifying faults in power systems that occur between phases.
Load Factor
The ratio of the average load during a specific period to the peak load during the same period.
