• term politics is derived from the Greek word ‘polis’ meaning the city

• meant to an ancient Greek–the science of the city-state or pertaining to the state & the government

Political Science

• the systematic study of the state and the government

• is a social science regarding the practice & theory of politics, the analysis of political systems, and the study of political behavior

Governance

• comes from Latin verb “gubernare” or more originally from Greek word “kubernaein” which means ‘to steer,’

• Refers to the manner of steering or directing and controlling a group of people or state

• commonly defined as exercise of power/authority by political leaders for the well being for their country’s citizens or

  subjects

Good Governance

• accountable

• transparent

• efficient

• following rule of law

• inclusive

• participatory

• consensus oriented

Government

• A group of people that governs a community or unit

• It sets & administers public policy & exercises executive, political & sovereign power through customs, institutions, & laws within a state

• A government can be classified into many types- Democracy, Republic, Monarchy, Aristocracy & Dictatorship, ect
