Meristematic tissue
Tissue type where cell division is concentrated, allowing for new growth and repair.
Ground tissue
Tissue responsible for storage, processing, and providing physical support in plants.
Dermal tissue
Tissue that serves as protection for plant surfaces and may assist in nutrient absorption.
Vascular tissue
Tissue involved in the movement of fluids/food and providing physical support to plants.
Apical meristem
The tip of a plant shoot or root where active cell division and growth occurs.
Shoot apex
The location at the top of the plant shoot where growth is concentrated.
Root apex
The growing tip of a root, where new cells are produced.
Differentiation
The process by which cells develop specialized functions and structures.
Phloem
Vascular tissue responsible for the transport of carbohydrates throughout the plant.
Xylem
Vascular tissue responsible for transporting water and dissolved minerals from roots to the rest of the plant.
Transverse section
A cross-sectional view of a stem or root that shows different plant tissues.
Vascular bundles
Structures that contain xylem and phloem, providing support and transportation within the plant.
