When does equilibrium lie to the right?
If there are more products.
When does equilibrium lie to the left?
If there are more reactants.
What is Le Chatelier’s Principle?
Changing the conditions of a reversible reaction will cause the equilibrium to shift to try and counteract the change.
What would happen if we decreased the temperature of a reversible reaction?
It would favour the exothermic reaction in order to release heat energy and counteract the change we just made.
Would move to products for exothermic reaction.
What would happen if we increased pressure of the sealed system?
Equilibrium would move to whichever side reduces the pressure back down.
Would move to side with least number of molecules.
What would happen if pressure of the closed system was decreased?
Equilibrium would move to the side with more molecules.
What would happen if we increased concentration of a reactant?
The equilibrium shifts to the opposite side.
