Prejudice

An unjustifiable and usually negative attitude toward a group and its members, involves stereotyped beliefs, negative feelings, and discrimination

Stereotype

A generalized belief about a group of people

Negative Feelings

Fear, disgust

Discrimination

Unjustifiable negative behavior toward a group or its members

Microagressions

Small prejudice, like being ignored

Implicit Bias

Automatic associations that can influence individual judgements or behavior toward people of a particular race, gender, gender, or other group

Explicit Bias

Intentional negative attitude or belief towards a group

Just-World Phenomenon

The tendency for people to believe that the world is just and people therefore get what they deserve

Ingroup

“us”, people we share a common identity with

Outgroup

“them”, those perceived as different or apart from our ingroup

Ingroup Bias

The tendency to favor our own group

Scapegoat theory

The theory that prejudice offers an outlet for anger by providing someone to blame

Outgroup Homogenity

Out group is similar to each other in personality and appearance

Other-Race Effect

The tendency to recall faces of one’s own race more accurately than faces of other races

Agression

Any physical or verbal behavior intended to harm someone physically or emotionally

Frustration

Blocking of attempt to achieve some goal

Frustration-Agression Principle

The principle that frustration creates anger, which can generate agression
