Preconventional Level

The first level of moral development, typically seen in childhood, where right and wrong is determined by consequences such as punishment or reward.

Stage 1: Punishment Orientation

Conventional Level

The third level of moral development, usually seen in adulthood, where right and wrong are determined by abstract principles and social contracts.

Stage 5: Social Contract Orientation

In this stage, right and wrong are determined by society's rules, viewed as fallible rather than absolute.

Stage 6: Individual Principles and Conscience Orientation

In this stage, right and wrong are determined by ethical principles that emphasize equity and justice.
