Working Memory (WM)
Limited capacity system for temporary storage and manipulation of information for complex tasks such as comprehension, learning, and reasoning.
Modal Model of Memory
A framework focusing on moving from sensory memory to short-term memory and eventually to long-term memory, proposed by Atkinson and Shiffrin.
Phonological Loop
The component of working memory responsible for hearing and understanding language.
Episodic Buffer
The part of working memory that integrates information from different modalities and improves memory effectiveness.
Visuospatial Sketchpad
The component responsible for visualizing and manipulating images and spatial information.
Central Executive
The chief component of working memory that coordinates activities and manages information processing.
