social norms, values and mores regulate peoples behaviour

demographic change (structural change) example
Windrush generation
cultural changes example
LGBTQ+ rights
public perception beginning
DD didn’t used to be a problem, as not as many cars on road - however now around 25.6 mill own cars in uk
adverts - used to be positive, now show graphic images - due to change in PP
public perception middle
breathalysers introduced in 1967- deterred ppl from drink driving - as could be proved guilty
end of public perception
increased laws e.g. sentence for murder by drink driving used to be 14yrs now its life,
breathalysers, campaigns and law change are effective as now only 5% of road casualties involve alcohol
beginning of demographic changes
Windrush generation - ppl from Caribbean invited to uk to help rebuild post war britan - many different ethnicities came to uk within 1 yr
middle of demographic changes
immigrants were treated badly + signs put up + couldnt get housing or jobs + no laws on racism at the time
end of demographic change
policies put in place - 1976 race relations act (stopped direct+indirect racism) and 2010 equality act
although policies impacted britan, we are still seeing increase in hate crime
start of cultural change
society used to consider LGBTQ+ community deviant (1533 buggery act - punishable by death) - cultural shift when ppls attitudes changed
middle of cultural changes
events such as pride march or Alan turing (suicide after fighting in war as gay man)
end of cultural changes
policy changes - equality act 2010, same sex marriage act, adoption rights
although change, theres still discrimination against LGBTQ+
cultural changes- adoption rights
used to be legislative barriers, now ppl ae allowed to adopt regardless of sexual orientation
