Credibility
An evaluation of whether the research findings represent a ‘credible’ conceptual interpretation of the data drawn from the participants’ original data; that is, whether the findings are truthful and believable.
Member checking
A technique frequently used by researchers to enhance the credibility of their work, involving evaluating the accuracy of transcription.
Triangulation
A method to enhance credibility by using at least three methods to crosscheck results, such as comparing interview themes with psychometric tests.
Transferability
A characteristic that indicates to what extent the study findings can be generalised or applied to other individuals or groups, contexts or settings.
Dependability
An assessment of the quality of the integrated processes of data collection, data analysis, and theory generation.
Confirmability
A measure of how well the inquiry’s findings are supported by the data collected.
