Godan

The most abundant form of a verb. It has 6 verb stems

It is called Godan as it has five changes in the verb stem that occur with the last syllable in the stem. This form allows for conjugation into various tenses and moods.

Example: ใฎใฟใพใ™ (to drink)

ใ‚๏ผ‰ใฎใพใ€€๏ผˆใฎใพใชใ„ใ€€๏ผ negative dictionary๏ผ‰

ใ„๏ผ‰ใฎใฟใ€€๏ผˆใฎใ‚€ใพใ™ใ€€๏ผ infinitive form

ใ†๏ผ‰ใฎใ‚€ใ€€(dictionary form)

ใˆ๏ผ‰ใฎใ‚๏ผˆใฎใ‚ใพใ™ = potential form, can do that action)

ใŠ๏ผ‰ใฎใ‚‚ (ใฎใ‚‚ใ† = voltional formย โ€œletโ€™sโ€ )

Ichidan

The has only one verb stem change and always ends in ใ‚‹. In addition, save for a few exeptions, every Ichidan verb has an ใ„ or ใˆ related character before the verb stepchange which allows for easy conjugation. Ichidan verbs include verbs like ้ฃŸในใ‚‹ (taberu, to eat) and ๅฏใ‚‹ (neru, to sleep).

Irregular Verbs

Contains onlyย ใ™ใ‚‹ใ€€and ใใ‚‹ which is ใ—ใพใ™ and ใใพใ™ in ใพใ™ form. These verbs do not follow the standard conjugation rules of Godan or Ichidan verbs. They also are the more tricky in conjugation as their rules are not consitent.

ใ™ใ‚‹ is easily one of the most expansive verbs as you can place a noun before it to โ€œdo that nounโ€. Examples includes:

ๅ‹‰ๅผทใ™ใ‚‹ (ในใ‚“ใใ‚‡ใ†,ใ™ใ‚‹ to study)

ๆ—…่กŒใ™ใ‚‹ (ใ‚Šใ‚‡ใ“ใ†ใ™ใ‚‹, to travel)

ใ‚นใƒใƒผใƒ„ใ‚’ใ™ใ‚‹ใ€€๏ผˆto play sports)
