Probability Model
Shows all possible outcomes AND their probabilities.
Complement
The probability of an event happening and not happening.
Sample Space
A list showing all possible outcomes, useful when all outcomes are equally likely.
Mutually Exclusive
When two events cannot happen at the same time.
Union (U)
Notation for the probability of A or B happening.
Intersection (∩)
Notation for the probability of A and B happening.
Experimental Probability
Probability based on the actual results of an experiment.
Formal Addition Rule
P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) if A and B are mutually exclusive.
P(X=4+)
The probability of a randomly selected mother having four or more children.
P(X < 2)
The probability that a randomly selected mother has less than 2 children.
