Appendicular skeleton
Consists of 126 bones that make up the limbs and girdles, primarily responsible for movement and weight transfer.
Pectoral girdle
Connects the upper limbs to the axial skeleton, allowing a large range of motion but with less stability.
Clavicle
A long S-shaped bone that connects the upper limb to the trunk; acts as a strut for shoulder positioning.
Scapula
Flat, triangular bones that form the shoulder blades, allowing attachment for rotator cuff muscles.
Acetabulum
Deep socket in the coxal bone that accommodates the femoral head for the hip joint.
Coxal bone
Hip bone formed by the fusion of the ilium, ischium, and pubis.
Femur
The longest and strongest bone in the body, forming the thigh and articulating with the hip and knee.
Tibia
The medial, weight-bearing bone of the lower leg (shin bone).
Fibula
The lateral bone of the lower leg, primarily providing stabilization of the ankle.
Phalanges
Bones of the fingers and toes; they include proximal, middle, and distal segments.
